The Delhi unit of Britannia Industries Ltd was conferred the CII National Award for Food Safety 2011 at a ceremony here today. The award was given in recognition of the company's commitment to suppliers and vendors.
Speaking during the awards ceremony, Mr Justice N Santosh Hegde, former Lokayukta, Karnataka, said that development needed to be inclusive. “Around 62 per cent of India lives in rural areas and has no access to sanitation or drinking water and we talk about development,” he said.
Justice Hegde also lamented the fact that elections in the country have become a business in which crores of rupees are spent and politicians look at return on investment like any other business.
Discussing the CII EXIM Bank Award, Mr C.V. Subramanyam, Principal Counsellor, Business Excellence, CII Institute of Quality, said that it was started 17 years ago to promote excellence in business and to encourage SMBs. In 2001, he said that CII decided to include healthcare and food safety and give awards under these categories.
This year, though there were many participants, there were no winners; however, CII commended the Bangalore unit of Bharat Electronics Ltd, the Bhilai Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Ltd, the electronics division of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, the locks division of Godrej & Boyce Mfg Co Ltd, and many others for their accomplishments.
Other companies who won commendations included Bosch, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, NSE, L&T Komatsu, Apollo Hospitals, and others.
