Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said there was a logic behind considering a change in price benchmark for calculating the net present value (NPV) of coal assets to be auctioned next month. Swarup, who was here for a review meeting of Coal India and its subsidiary Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL), however, refused to elaborate as the issue is pending approval of the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs. While the UPA Government used Indonesian coal prices as benchmark, now the Centre is considering using the CIL price.
