Courier firm DTDC close to a buy in West Asia: CMD

Courier company DTDC is in the final stages of making an acquisition in West Asia, Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Subhasish Chakraborty said. He did not elaborate further.

“We have recently set up joint ventures in Canada and China. DTDC is also planning an expansion into Australia within the next two years,” he said.

DTDC is also planning to strengthen the business by servicing e-commerce and other Cash-on-Delivery (COD) businesses specifically. “We are also keen to expand and consolidate our presence in the Asia market, keeping China and the UAE as the nucleus of our new international territories,” said Mr Chakraborty.

The company is aiming at a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore by FY 2015-16. “We are the first express company in India to have introduced a premium day-definite time-bound product with money back guarantee four years back. Now we plan to build on this foundation with newer products like same-day delivery service, for urgent and special consignments such as medical samples,” Mr Chakraborty told

In the retail segment, DTDC will be opening many more stores offering multiple convenience services under one roof through the brand DTDC New World.

India is currently spending considerably less than the developed countries on the logistics sector.

Logistics companies feel that significant measures such as implementation of GST and other legislation need to be taken for the industry to become one of the larger contributors to GDP growth.
