Expanding its overseas presence, German commercial vehicle maker Daimler has begun shipping its FUSO range of trucks to Zimbabwe.
With exports of FUSO trucks from Chennai by Daimler India Commercial Vehicle (DICV), the Indian subsidiary of Stuttgart based Daimler AG, Zimbabwe has become the fourth export market for trucks, a company statement said.
DICV along with the Daimler Company, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, launched the trucks in Zimbabwe, making it the fourth African market since the beginning of exports in May 2013, it said.
These trucks are already present in Kenya, Sri Lanka, Zambia and Tanzania with more markets to follow in Asia and Africa, it said.
Daimler India has a 400-acre manufacturing facility at Oragadam near here at an approximate investment of Rs 4,400 crore. The company manufactures five models across various tonnages in the medium/heavy duty and light/medium duty segment.
The release said FUSO range of trucks were already showing strong growth potential in Africa, with a presence in over 35 markets and almost doubling sales in first quarter of 2014 to 2,000 units.
With a clear view on the growth potential in Africa, FUSO is in preparation to continuously add more markets to its strong market presence, the statement added.
