Ella Foundation has won a $100,000 Grand Challenges Explorations Grant, an initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
This Grant will help Ella Foundation pursue efforts to checkmate the polio virus during and after the eradication of polio. The aim is to have a live polio vaccine, which could carry the benefits of an oral polio vaccine.
These include safety, efficacy, ease of manufacture, distribution and administration along with the safety profile of an injectable polio vaccine, by eliminating vaccine derived polio virus, a release from Ella Foundation said.
Ella Foundation founded by Dr Krishna Ella and Ms Suchitra Ella, the promoters of Bharat Biotech International is an independent Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation since 2002. Its key focus is on infectious diseases.
Grand Challenges Explorations funds scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs worldwide to explore ideas that can break the mould in how we solve persistent global health and development challenges. Ella Foundation’s project is one of over 100 Grand Challenges Explorations Round 8 grants announced today by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
