Essar Steel announced on Thursday it had achieved its highest crude steel production in March this year at 3.8 lakh tonnes. This is a growth of 24 per cent over the same period a year ago.
Production of finished steel in the month rose 25 per cent to 3.97 lakh tonnes.
“Essar Steel is close to completing its expansion of steel-making capacity at 10 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). On completion of the expansion, Essar Steel will be the largest flat steel producer in a single location in the country,” the company said in a statement. Essar Steel has a global production capacity of 14 MTPA. It is an integrated flat carbon steel manufacturer with a presence in North America, Europe, West Asia and South-East Asia, the UK, the UAE and Indonesia. Its products are used in sectors such as automobiles, white goods, construction, engineering, hydrocarbons and shipbuilding.
According to the Steel Ministry's Joint Plant Committee, the total production of finished steel in the country in March touched 59.37 lakh tonnes, a growth of seven per cent over the same month last year.
