Fiat is open to bringing in more models from the company's global stable depending upon the demand here, said Mr Enrico Atanasiao, Senior Vice-President, Fiat India Automobiles Ltd.
Italian automotive major, which has garnered a big chunk of the country's diesel engine market supplying to Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki, said they might consider more engines for India.
Without getting into which model or which engine capacity that Fiat could possibly line-up for India, he said, “We have an open mind and take the right decision. Plans for new models would be discussed at a different forum.”
Launching their first exclusive Fiat dealership in India at Hyderabad, the Fiat official said this move is not aimed at a solo drive but to present the Fiat as a global brand to the people.
“Tata Motors has grown over the years and now has over six to seven models. Our presence alongside them may not fully represent what the brand reflects. Therefore, we are setting up new exclusive outlets of Fiat. We plan to have about 20 of them by the end of the year,” he said.
Asked if they plan to take up expansion of their engine plant in Maharashtra, the Fiat official said the plant is functioning at over 85 per cent capacity.
The company would consider expansion if the market demands more engines.
