General Motors India registered a growth of 14 per cent in sales led by the "overwhelming" response to Chevrolet Beat Diesel in August 2011, compared to the corresponding period last year.
It sold 9,050 units in August 2011 against 7,941 in the same month last year, according to a statement.
The August 2011 sales comprised 4,681 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1,924 of Chevrolet Tavera, 1,301 of Chevrolet Spark, 667 of the Chevrolet Cruze, 161 of Chevrolet Optra, 203 of Chevrolet Aveo and 113 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.
The GM India Vice-President, Mr P. Balendran, said the growth was primarily driven by the recently launched Chevrolet Beat Diesel.
"Although we have registered 14 per cent growth, the market continues to be sluggish due to the repeated hike in interest rates and fuel prices," he added.
