Backed by a steady growth in its home furniture division, Godrej Interio expects 30 per cent growth in sales in 2012-13.

Home furniture currently accounts for about 40-45 per cent of the company's total sales. According to Mr Ratul Mazumder, Assistant Vice-President, Sales, Godrej Interio, East Zone, the segment has been growing at about 24 per cent on a year-on-year basis.

“The rate of growth in home furniture division is higher than that of institutional division which has been growing at about 18 per cent. The share of home furniture in total sales is set to rise to 50 per cent in the next one-to-two years,” Mr Mazumder said.

He was speaking at the launch of Interio's largest store in Kolkata on BT Road - on the northern fringes of the city.

Godrej Interio's total turnover grew 20 per cent in 2011-12 to Rs 1,400 crore. The eastern region accounted for almost 25 per cent of the total sales at Rs 350 crore last year.

Unorganised market

The unorganised segment still holds over 60 per cent of the total furniture market in the country at present. However, the share of organised segment has been steadily increasing, Mr Mazumder pointed out.

“Quality guarantee and standardised prices is set to push the share of organised market to 50 per cent in the next one year,” he said.

Stores

Interio has 50 company-owned stores and 700 outlets managed by franchisees and dealers. The company plans to tap the franchisee route for expanding its presence in the country.
