IPL-5 weather forecast – thunder squall threat for Cuttack

There is a threat of thunder squalls being triggered over Cuttack, the venue for an IPL cricket match later today.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put out a weather warning to this effect.

An influx of moisture-laden southeasterly winds running into dry, cross-Continental northwesterlies set up the background for expected inclement weather.

Day-time heating combined with late-noon rush of winds from adjoining Bay of Bengal is what would lead to the flare-up of weather.

Partly cloudy skies with humidity reaching up to 90 per cent may not make conditions exactly ideal for an outdoor game.

This is despite the possibility that mercury would tend to be much lower than the usual for the city for this time of the year.

Southeasterly winds are expected to clock an average 10 to 20 km/hr, accelerating to up to 30 to 40 km/hr in case of a squall.
