Violence at industrial plants will hinder the country in its quest to become a manufacturing-driven economy, says Rane Group Chairman, Mr L. Ganesh. Referring to the recent developments at Maruti’s Manesar plant, which has suspended operations, Mr Ganesh said: “We are shocked at this turn of events. This kind of violence and attack on employees does not augur well if India is to attain its potential as a manufacturing-centric economy.”
Rane NSK Steering Systems, a group company, has a manufacturing plant in Bawal, Haryana, which supplies electric steering systems primarily to Maruti. Last year, when Maruti workers had gone on strike in Manesar, Rane NSK’s production was hit. But the company is not worried about short-term effect on its sales, said Mr Ganesh. “When a customer has industrial relations problems, we have to share the burden. But labour laws and order need urgent review.”
