Two automobile majors announced recalls from the US market on Wednesday, with regards to certain versions of their vehicles.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is recalling 4,195 Jaguar XF sedans in the US, built for model years 2010, 2011 and 2012, given issues with the fuel tank outlet flange. The latter is susceptible to cracking and could lead to a possible fuel spill, the company has said.
Toyota, too, has issued a recall of 11,200 Scion iQ cars in the US, to fix a problem that could cause air-bags and seat belts to malfunction.
Toyota has said it would install protective covers on weight sensors in the front passenger seat that control air-bags and seat belts to prevent possible damage. No crashes or injuries have been reported relating to the problem, the company said.
In the case of JLR, most vehicles affected by the recall were assembled in Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich, UK plant, between April 2009 and January 2010.
Though the company has not received any reports of fires, accidents or injuries related to this defect, owners will be notified of the recall via mail, with the expected recall date on or before December 7, 2012.
Dealers are to replace the defective JLR fuel tank outlet flange with a part utilising a revised design, at no charge to consumers, the company has said.
