Launches printer that doubles up as scanner and copier

Konica Minolta Business Solutions India today unveiled a black and white A4 printer that doubles up as scanner and copier — a combination, which company officials say, is seeing swift sales.

The subsidiary of Japan-based Konica Minolta Inc entered the A4-size segment last April with the launch of a multi-functional machine that could print, scan, copy, and receive fax messages. It has sold 2,000 pieces so far.

But with the advent of e-mail, the fax machine is slowly dying away. With the new launch, the company is taking another shot at the A4 multi-functional printer market, which saw seven lakh machines sold in 2012-13.

“But at the same time, we will keep the 4-in-one line going on,” said Kuldeep Malhotra, Executive General Manager (Sales), Sales and Marketing, Konica Minolta India.

The new pagepro1580MF, priced at ₹10,500, can print 20 A4 papers in a minute, has an in-built memory of 14 MB, and is designed for small offices and homes.

V. Balakrishnan, Executive General Manager in-charge of marketing, says the significant market share in A3-size printers and copier machines will help promote the A4 printer.

The company will offer on-site servicing and pitch lower costs of printing to promote this product.

Tadhahiko Sumitani, Managing Director of the Indian arm, says the company will have a revenue of ₹300 crore in 2013-14 fiscal against ₹228 crore last year.

It is also considering setting up another unit besides its facility in China, but the location has not been finalised yet.
