State-run operator Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) is to offer free incoming roaming for its customers travelling to Mumbai or Delhi, the only two circles where the company has operations.
The free incoming would be offered both for on-network (calls on the company’s network) and off network (calls from other operators). The services would be launched on Friday by Communications Minister Kapil Sibal, sources close to the development said. The services would be available from January 26 for both pre- and post-paid users, they added.
When contacted, company officials declined to comment.
Incoming calls, while roaming in these metros, are billed at 75 paise per minute. At present, outgoing long distance (STD) calls are charged at ₹1.40 and outgoing local calls at 90 paise per minute.
The company, which had added 10,907 users in December, had a total of 3.5 million subscribers in the two circles.
