Malabar Gold is planning to open showrooms in the coastal towns of Andhra Pradesh such as Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Guntur and Vijayawada and also in the other parts of the State and the country, according to Mr M.P Ahammed, the chairman of the group.

He was speaking here on Sunday after the first showroom in Visakhapatnam, and the sixtieth of Malabar Gold, was inaugurated by Ms D. Purandeswari, Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development. A number of local legislators attended the programme. Ms Purandeswari complimented the group on the occasion.

Mr Ahammed said the Telugu film star, Junior NTR, was the brand ambassador of the group in Andhra Pradesh. He said, “Malabar Gold's services will include lifelong free maintenance, one-year free insurance and buy-back guarantee for all its ornaments. We also have a wedding purchase scheme.” he said.

He said the group, started in 1993, had spread rapidly to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and the Gulf. One more showroom would be opened in Chennai on October 2 and in New Delhi on October 22. The group would spread to other parts of the country as well. He said the company was now eyeing the far-east and Europe, having covered most parts of the Gulf region.

Mr Ahammed said the group had set up a portion of its profits for taking up welfare activities for the poorer sections of the society. Life-saving drugs were being given to the poor patients and construction material to build homes. In Andhra Pradesh, the company wants to take up a Green India awareness campaign for environmental awareness.

Mr Asher, the group's executive director, and other officials of the group participated in the programme.
