Automotive major Mahindra & Mahindra may consider a manufacturing unit for automotives and trucks in Andhra Pradesh.
The company recently commissioned a tractor unit at Zaheerabad in the State.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, during an interaction with the visiting delegation of Isuzu Motors India, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy mentioned the possibility of such a proposal. The Chief Minister had earlier this year inaugurated the Mahindras’ tractor plant.
Sri city unit
The delegation from Isuzu Motors India met the Chief Minister in connection with the support extended by the State in establishing a truck and car manufacturing unit in Sri City in Chittoor district.
While assuring all support from the State Government, he directed the company to speed up the project and start production at the earliest.
Isuzu Motors has indicated a plan to set up a production capacity of 1,60,000 units a year at an investment of Rs 1,500 crore, providing employment to 2,900 people. It is slated to start production by April 2016.
The State Government is providing all incentives as per the industrial and investment policy of 2010-15. The delegation, led by T.Kikuchi, President and Managing Director, and S. Wakabayashi, Executive Vice-President, Isuzu Motors India Ltd, included officials from Mitsubishi Motors as well.
