The West Bengal Government on Thursday said that it is likely to call for a tripartite meeting on the re-opening of Dunlop India's Shahgunj unit in the Hooghly district.

According to the Labour Minister, Mr Purnendu Basu, a tripartite meeting will be called soon, involving the company management, representatives of workers unions and the State Government.

“We had received letters from both the Dunlop management and the representatives of the workers unions expressing their willingness to sit for a tripartite meeting. A meeting is likely to be held sometime next week (between April 9 and April 14),” he said, adding that matters relating to the re-opening of the Shahgunj unit will be discussed at the meeting.

Dunlop India, has already paid one month wages (amounting to nearly Rs 45 lakh) to its 858 workers at the Shahgunj unit.

Dunlop clarifies

Dunlop India has meanwhile clarified that the special officer appointed by the Calcutta High Court is often erroneously referred to as the ‘liquidator'.

The company clarifies that the appointment of the provisional liquidator was stayed by the Division Bench of Justices Mr K.J. Sengupta and Mr J. Bagchi on March 29.

Mr K. Anand Rao is not acting as the Official Liquidator, but has been appointed as a Special Officer of the Calcutta High Court.
