Siemens PLM Software has granted software to the tune of $79 million to an engineering college at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada district.
The technological aid is for setting up a Centre of Excellence in digital design, digital validation and in digital manufacturing at Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE).
Suman Bose, Vice-President and Managing Director of Siemens PLM Software, and Rajesh Chouta, President of Rajalaxmi Education Trust (which runs MITE), signed the memorandum of understanding at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday.
In an informal chat with presspersons after signing the agreement, Bose said this is the first Centre of Excellence by Siemens in Karnataka.
With this centre, students will get access to the same technology that companies around the world depend on every day to develop products in industries such as automotive, aerospace, machinery, shipbuilding and high-tech electronics, he said.
Bose said that Siemens PLM Software is setting up five such centres in Gujarat. Siemens PLM Software is a provider of PLM (project lifecycle management) software and services with 71,000 customers worldwide, he said.
After signing the memorandum of understanding on Thursday, he said the centre would be opened by July. Other colleges in the region can also make use of the centre’s facility, he said.
Bose hoped that such centres of excellence would become a nodal centre for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“We believe this will become the nodal centre for the industries around to seek help. The centre will also help in training people in the industry,” he said.
