NMDC has signed a contract for Steel Making Shop (SMS) Package with a consortium led by Siemens VAI, Austria. The contract is for the upcoming three million tonnes a year integrated steel plant at Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh.
This is the sixth major package awarded in respect of NMDC's greenfield project.
The steel melting shop will convert hot metals produced by the blast furnace to steel. It will subsequently be the input for the thin slab caster and rolling mill to produce the finished saleable product such as low carbon, high strength, line pipe quality, automobile steel, and so on, in the form of hot rolled coils.
Mr G. Viswakarma, Executive Director on behalf of NMDC and Mr Norbert Petermaier, Senior Vice-President, on behalf of SVAI, Austria, signed the contract agreement.
Also present was Mr N.K. Nanda, Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC, and other executives.
