Nagarjuna Agrichem Ltd has received clearances from the AP Pollution Control Board (APPCB), the fire department, and the inspector of factories for re-opening its pesticide unit at Chilakapalem village in Srikakulam district, according to a press release.
A fire broke out in the unit on June 30, resulting in injuries to more than a dozen workers. All of them subsequently recovered and the unit was shut down. The workers and staff of the unit are demanding re-opening of the unit, but there is opposition from sections of public in the nearby villages.
According to the press release issued by Vice-President (Manufacturing) K.G. Vadivel, the pollution board has reviewed the environmental safeguards in the presence of public representatives and revoked the closure order.
In line with the present approvals, production can re-commence for a few products in a few blocks of the unit and it will be reviewed again after three months. Production in the remaining blocks will re-commence on receiving the necessary approvals.
The Government departments have given the approvals after checking whether the company has implemented the recommendations or not, according to Vadivel.
