The employees of Nagarjuna Agrichem staged a demonstration here on Saturday at the Collector's office, demanding the re-opening of the unit as the Government had given the permission. Union President P.S.V.S Varma and Secretary Parvathi Kumar participated in the demonstration. Operations were suspended at the Nagarjuna Agrichem pesticide factory at Chilakapalem village in Srikakulam district from June 30, following an accident.

A reactor caught fire in the unit, causing injuries to more than a dozen workers. There were no casualties and all the workers subsequently recovered. Since then, activists and sections of public in the nearby villages are opposing the re-opening of the plant. But the employees are demanding the re-opening of the unit as their livelihood is dependent on it.
