Engines and gen-set manufacturer Cummins has opened a new plant to make high horsepower engines at its mega site at Phaltan in Maharashtra. The seventh factory to open at the location, it is Cummins’ largest high horsepower manufacturing site in the world.
The plant that will build the QSK 23 tier I and II engines imported till now from Japan’s Komatsu Ltd., can produce 3,000 units per year initially. It will also manufacture QSK 23 tier IV and QSK 60 engines that will comply with 2015 emission norms, in the near future. This range caters to the power generation, mining, industrial, construction, and oil and gas sectors, for both domestic and global markets.
“The mega-site was conceived six years ago to house ongoing and future expansions of the Cummins Group in India,” said Anant J. Talaulicar, Managing Director, Cummins India.
