Key Asylum Inc is in talks with Indian film chambers and producers to sell its Internet-based film distribution application.

Called Egg, this application allows film producers to securely sell rights individuals to download and watch movies on a variety of digital devices.

“We have already sold this application to about 25 producers in Karnataka. We are in talks with Telugu film industry now. Later, we will go to Tamil Nadu,” Mr Anand Kannan, Senior Vice-President (International Business) of Key Asylum Inc.

An Egg is a digitally encrypted container which could be decrypted only by authorised users. Content owners can pause a film, resume and delete from consumers' devices.

The firm tied up with PayPal for payment gateway. “We might look at other gateways as we expand to newer locations,” he said.

Ropes in producers

The three-year-old firm, which launched the product last year, has roped in 150 producers in the Gulf, Africa, Europe and the US.

The six-member team would take the content on its server in the US and converts and transfers it multiple servers to cater to the different smart devices. Unlike other solutions that provide streaming-based video viewing, Key Asylum's technology allows the users to download content on their devices and watch later.

Quoting reports, he put video-on-demand revenues at $60 billion.

“The industry can stop piracy using this application as it strictly restricts content only to authorised users,” he said.

The company offers this solution on revenue-share basis. Content providers would get an additional space of 100 MB which can be used for advertisements or promos. The company also sells this technology as a white label (third party firms can buy licence and put their own brand).
