In the aftermath of cyclone Hudhud that struck Vizag on October 12, Rashtriya Ishpat Nigam Ltd (RINL) is estimated to have suffered property damage worth ₹100 crore and a fortnight's production loss worth around ₹200 crore. However, much of this damage and loss could be recovered through insurance claims, P Madhusudan, Chairman and Managing Director of RINL, told Business Line .
Final calculations and processing of claims was underway, he indicated. Meanwhile, the shore-based public sector steel plant could restore a large part of its power supply and operations at the plant.
"After restoring operations at the in-house power plant and power drawal from an emergency line, RINL as of now has secured 200 MW. We are to start getting another 60 MW from Sunday through another line. This would be enough to run operations of the steel plant", he said.
The plant expects to begin near normal operations next week. The blast furnace, coke oven, converter, steel melting units and the caster are almost ready for full blast. Next week three rolling mills are to come into operation.
