Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd (RBNL) is set to ink a 50:50 JV with Europe's RTL Group, which operates 33 radio stations and 40 television channels across 10 countries. Further to the development, a new RBNL subsidiary will own and operate a portfolio of television channels, starting with English general entertainment channels, according to sources close to the development.
Fremantle Media, the production arm of RTL Group, produces programming across 54 countries.
Initially, Fremantle is expected to feed content for the English channels launched through the JV. Entertainment channels in Hindi and other Indian languages would be explored in the next phase, said sources.
The new channels would add to RBNL's Television portfolio. The company had recently acquired Hindi GEC Imagine Showbiz from Cinestar Advertising.
