The Public Enterprises Selection Board on Wednesday short-listed Mr S. Narsing Rao to be the Chairman and Managing Director of the Rs 50,000-crore Coal India Ltd.
He was one of the 15 aspirants, including six CIL-nominees, in the fray, according to sources.
An Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer, Mr Rao is the CMD of the state-controlled Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) since 2006.
If appointed, Mr Rao will be the fourth non-CIL nominee selected for the top job and, second in three decades. CIL has not had a full-time CMD since March 2011.
