While the Government is faced with a stiff target of achieving 500 million skilled people by 2022, the private sector has the problem of ‘here and now.' Sectors such as real estate, hospitality and retail that require trained workforce in the near future are using their resources to increase the talent pool availability.

Real estate developer, Salarpuria Sattva Group, will run centres to train people in the facility management area.

The mandate for the company is to train and make 10 lakh employable in 10 years.

2 centres in Banglore

The company has already identified the centres, two of which will be located in Bangalore.

“We will expand to other locations in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha because this is where most labourers for the sector come from,” said Mr P.K. Mishra, Director, Sattva Property Management.

In the facility management area alone, the Government is targeting to train about 150 million people in ten years.

Bharti Walmart centres

Retailer Bharti Walmart operates three Bharti Walmart training centres at Amritsar, Delhi and Bangalore and has trained over 9,550 students with 3,500 students employed with various companies.

The centre at Bangalore was launched last year under a public-private partnership with the Karnataka Government.

According to a Bharti Walmart spokesperson, the company will launch three more centres under the PPP model and 12 spoke centres by 2016 to train 40,000 students.

The Bangalore-based ITM Institute of Hotel Management has launched a three-month certificate course in housekeeping and F&B service for students from rural backgrounds.

The institute has tied up with large hotel chains to train these students and absorb the trained candidates for employment.

“The Institute will groom the student to suit the hotels' requirement and also teach take them through formal education as per the curriculum so that they are ready for the industry,” says Mr Antony Mahendran, Principal, ITM Institute of Hotel Management.
