Sanghvi Forging and Engineering plans to start trial production at its new plant at Vadodara, Gujarat, in June. The plant will have a capacity of 15,000 tonnes a year and produce single piece forging up to 40 tonnes. The BSE-listed company has invested Rs 125 crore in the new plant.
It plans to supply the heavy forgings to companies in the ship building, oil and gas and infrastructure projects. Sanghvi is also in talks to source steel ingots of 50 tonnes from overseas markets as ingots of large size are not available in India, said the MD, Mr Jayanti Sanghvi. “Most of the heavy forgings are currently imported. We are hopeful of capturing the market because we will be able to reduce the lead time to three to four months compared with imports which will take six months to one year,” he added.
The company will make stepped shafts, bars and hollows, blocks, flanged shafts, gear blanks, shells, tube sheets and other forging items. Its major clients include L&T, HPCL, BPCL, IOCL, Samsung, GNFC, BHEL, Essar and GE. — Our Bureau
