Siemens will invest over €150 million in Denmark to further expand its global wind power business in the next two years. Two new research and development centres will to be set up in Brande and Aalborg there.

Siemens will match the capacity of its Danish production plants to the rising demand for offshore wind turbines in Europe, the company said.

“Our investments in R&D and the extension of production facilities will pave the road for our global expansion,” said Mr Jens-Peter Saul, CEO, Siemens Wind Power Business Unit.

In 2010, Siemens opened two new wind turbine production plants in China and the US. Further production facilities are planned in the UK, Canada, Russia and India.

Sales push

“We intend to continue expanding our global manufacturing network and to step up our sales activities in key markets. Our two new research and development centres will help us to push ahead with our technology lead in wind power business,” he said.

In India, Siemens has set a facility at Vadodara, Gujarat and production is slated to commence in 2013 with an annual capacity of 250 MW, which will be scaled up to 500 MW by 2015.

Siemens Wind Power operates research and development centres in Aachen (Germany), Taastrup (Denmark), Sheffield and Keele (UK), the Hague (Netherlands) and in Boulder (US).
