The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity has asked power generators —Tata Power and Adani Power — and distribution companies of Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab and Maharashtra to reach a negotiated settlement on the issue of compensatory tariff allowed by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission. In April 2013, CERC had allowed compensatory tariff to be paid to Tata Power and Adani Power’s mega power projects in Mundra which run on imported coal from Indonesia. This was challenged by the distributors in the Supreme Court following which the apex court put a stay order on APTEL’s interim order allowing the compensatory tariff.
