Technology service provider KPIT Cummins Infosystems will hire 2,000 people this year, primarily for the automotive vertical.
The company, which provides embedded electronics software solutions to the auto industry, will absorb an equal mix of freshers and experienced talent. About 70 per cent of hiring will be in Bangalore and Pune, where Cummins already has a good presence; the rest will be Noida and Chennai, where the company is looking to ramp up, says Ms Renuka Krishna, Associate Vice-President, Talent and Deployment.
Currently, KPIT Cummins Infosystems’ staff strength is around 5,000 in India – predominantly in Pune and Bangalore. (Last year, the company recruited 1,100 people.) Global headcount is 6,500.
“Traditionally, KPIT has served clients in Chennai from Pune and Bangalore…though we also have a small team of 120 people in Chennai. But recently, a couple of international auto clients in Chennai expanded the work they give to us. Chennai has thus become a focus area for targeted hiring… We will pick over 100 people in this region,” says Ms Krishna.
Campus connect programme
KPIT is bringing its campus connect programme ‘Pace’ to engineering colleges in Chennai and also Madurai, Coimbatore, Vellore and Virudhunagar. Colleges include IIT, Anna University, PSG and Vellore Institute of Technology.
Through Pace, KPIT Cummins works with colleges from year one – through guest lectures, dummy projects and live projects. By the third year, both the company and the students have a fair idea of what each wants, explains Ms Krishna. “This has worked well in Karnataka and Maharashtra.”
KPIT Cummins will hire engineers (BTech and MTech) from the electronics, instrumentation and communications streams. Lateral hires should have experience in embedded space and auto domain knowledge.
The auto sector accounts for 60 per cent of Cummins’ business. The company also provides ERP and consulting solutions to heavy equipment manufacturers.
