The National Clean Energy Fund should be used to support renewable energy and related infrastructure, according to Mr Ramesh Kymal, Chairman and Managing Director, Gamesa Wind Turbines Pvt Ltd.
The fund collected through a cess of Rs 50 a tonne on coal is meant to promote clean and renewable energy, Mr Kymal said at a panel discussion on renewable energy at Wind Power India 2011.Using the funds, wind energy could be made more remunerative through generation-based incentives, bringing down interest rates on funds and creating supporting transmission infrastructure. Unfortunately, it is being used for unconnected things and there is a “need to get it back on track,” he said.
Mr Madhusudan Khemka, Managing Director, ReGen Powertech, echoing similar sentiments said the Government has to strengthen transmission infrastructure.
Mr Bernhard Telgmann who heads Siemen's wind operations in the Asia-Pacific, said the policies should help create a simple and transparent market. If the deal is simple, there is “no end to growth.”
