Vodafone hopes to increase its average revenue per user (ARPU) in the Tamil Nadu circle by focussing on data and soon-to-be-launched mobile-commerce services.

Its ARPU has been stagnant in the last five quarters, but the telecom operator hopes it will increase next year with various business plans in place, R Suresh Kumar, Operations Director, South India, Vodafone South Ltd, told newspersons.

Mobile commerce m-pesa will be launched in Tamil Nadu in the next 45 days.

The service will be offered by Vodafone through its wholly-owned subsidiary Mobile Commerce Solutions Ltd in association with ICICI Bank.

According to Apoorva Mehrotra, Business Head, Tamil Nadu, Vodafone South Ltd, in the last seven years the company has invested around ₹3,000 crore in the State.

While the industry is growing at 8 per cent annually in the State, Vodafone has been growing at 10 per cent.

Vodafone has been the largest gainer of subscribers through mobile number portability. While the operator gained 6.3 lakh subscribers, the next largest was 3.5 lakh by a competitor, he said.
