German car maker Volkswagen today said it clocked a 140 per cent growth in total sales to 78,408 units during the calendar year 2011 compared to 32,627 units in 2010.
“Despite the ups and downs over the last six months, we have continued to invest in the market by introducing new products, expanding our reach and refreshing our existing models,” Volkswagen Group Sales India Director (Member of Board) - passenger cars division, Mr Neeraj Garg said in a statement issued here.
The two new carlines — the Passat with BlueMotion Technologies and the Jetta have shown strong growth with the Passat selling 1,170 units since its launch in April and the Jetta 1,688 units since August, he said.
Volkswagen’s Polo and Vento range models reported sales of 74,305 units for the January—December 2011 period.
“These results give us the confidence that the brand is on the right track,” Mr Garg added.
