Weiss Umwelttecknik GmbH of Germany and part of the diversified Global Schunk Holding group, on Sunday announced the setting up of an Indian subsidiary, its 29th across the globe, to address the growing market directly with its products that help test and simulate real environment conditions.
The company management which has a big hold on real environment testing equipment, with manufacturing plants spread all over, including one set up in China, may also consider another manufacturing unit in India within the next two years, according to Mr. M.A.Gaffar, Managing Director of Weiss India.
After the formal announcement of the new arm, Mr.Gaffar told Business Line that the company has access to about two acres of land at the Aerospace Park coming up near the new international airport.
“We will certainly consider a manufacturing base which will see an outlay of about Rs.150 crore. May be we will start with major components initially and then later follow this up with full scale production,” he said.
The Weiss speciality includes simulation of real environmental conditions be it extreme cold of up to -150 degree C , humidity of 10 to 98 per cent, wind, dust and corrosion aspects. With separate standards for defence, automotive, pharma sectors, all of them need such test equipment to be globally competitive.
The company has more than 700 installations in India and its automotive customers include Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai Motors, Hero Motors, ARAI and ISRO and DRDO in other areas.
Mr. Gaffar said that the company has grown organically and through acquisitions to be the leading player in this specialised field.
