What with likes of lamps, lanterns, fans being powered by sunlight, solar products have become FMCG goods. The number of solar products are growing by the day. Solar cook stoves and water heaters are slowly becoming ubiquitous, and innovative products are taking to the markets.
For instance, there is a cap with a small fan embedded in it that runs on solar power.
Chennai-based Solkar Solar Industry Ltd is coming up with a show that captures the growing FMCG spirit of solar-powered products.
Between August 3 and 5, Solkar Solar will conduct a ‘Surya Mela’ at eleven locations in the city and the company intends to back the event with a “massive awareness campaign”.
Solkar Solar has engaged more than 200 final year Engg and MBA students who are trained for product demonstration and spreading of message, says Mr K. E. Raghunathan, Managing Director of the company. During this period, all solar products will be on display for a live demonstration.
Those who purchase products at the mela will get them at cost price, he says. Further, the company has arranged for funding at zero per cent interest for credit card holders of HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak and Standard Chartered banks, but the dues would have to be paid in six months.
