Power and automation technology group ABB has won an Rs 175-crore order from Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd, the central transmission utility in India, to supply equipment for the Champa transmission substation, a pooling station receiving power at 765 and 400 kilovolt (kV) in Chhattisgarh.
ABB's project scope includes the design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the 765 kV and 400 kV switchyards, including the civil works.
It will also supply circuit breakers, current transformers, capacitive voltage transformers, surge arrestors and protection, control and relay panels, a press statement said.
“These substations will contribute to the development of India's 765 kV and 400 kV power infrastructure by enhancing transmission capacity, facilitating grid reliability and improving power stability, they will help meet the growing demand for electricity and improve availability and quality of power for consumers,” Mr N Venu, ABB India's head of Power Systems, said in a press statement.
PowerGrid owns and operates about 86,190 km of transmission lines and 138 substations with transformation capacity of about 95,125 MVA (mega-volt-ampere). It is responsible for the transmission of over half the total power generated in the country.
