Auto parts manufacturer Bosch will resume operations on Monday at its Adugodi and Koramangala facilities, which had been ordered shut by the Karnataka pollution control authorities on environmental grounds.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) had issued notice to Bosch on May 5 ordering the shutdown of the facilities.

The Bosch Group made a representation clarifying the points raised in the notice, after which the authorities said the order would not apply to the two facilities.

Soumitra Bhattacharya, president, Bosch Group India, said: “As a socially responsible organisation, the Bosch Group upholds the highest standards of environment protection and legality.”

“Necessary sewage and effluent treatment measures” had been implemented and are operational, Bhattacharya said.

“We follow standards as... defined globally. Having received clarification from the KSPCB, Bosch will commence operations at its location in Adugodi and Koramangala,” he added.

Bosch India said it had been operating all of its facilities in accordance with the prescribed environmental norms.

Yet, as a matter of abundant caution and in order to abide by the law, the Group’s management in India decided to temporarily halt operations on May 6, it noted.

The Group said it “appreciates the support and quick clarification provided by the Karnataka government.”

“Throughout its tenure in India, Bosch has been implementing and practicing socially and environmentally friendly practices,” it claimed.

These practices, it added, “have been adopted and discussed with relevant stakeholders from the State government.”

In the past, it added, Bosch locations have been the recipient of recognition and awards pertaining to environmental-friendly best practices.

Bosch, it added, does not foresee any financial impact or turnover loss on account of this temporary closure.
