Alcis, a performance wear brand promoted by Paragon Apparels said that it will manufacture 50 per cent of its apparel from recycled polyester, which is derived from plastic waste.

Alcis has been making t-shirts from waste plastic bottles for the past two years called ‘Wonder Tee’. Each t-shirt uses about 8 plastic bottles, the company said in a statement.

These T-Shirts use R-PET, a strong, durable and recyclable material used for soda bottles, water bottles, food jars etc, making them environment-friendly and cost-effective. Roshan Baid, Managing Director of Alcis Sports, claims that this move will help reduce carbon emission by over 54 per cent, energy consumption by 50 per cent and 27 litres of water can be saved per product.

Roshan Baid, Managing Director of Alcis Sports, said that consumers in India are increasingly becoming environmentally conscious. “With India playing host to the World Environment Day and the theme for this year being ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, we thought that this is a great time to discard polyester and move to recycled polyester,” he added.

The company has also partnered with Flipkart to sell official FIFA fan-wear merchandise exclusively.
