With Spicejet launching a fresh fare war with a base price of Re 1, the first casualty appeared to be those looking to grab a part of the offer due to inability to access the airline website because of booming traffic.
The company had to put up a regret note stating that its site was witnessing heavy traffic and it would redirect the search after a few seconds, which however never materialised because of the unabated search.
The instant an attempt was made to open the airline website, the regret message was flashed on the screen:
'SORRY! Our online booking site is currently experiencing heavy traffic. Please try again later. You will be automatically redirected to the SpiceJet website in 20 seconds. Or click this link to go there now: http://www.spicejet.com'
Though the concession covered only the base price and when other levies were added, the ticket price would be higher, still it offered an attractive option to the travellers. For those looking for multiple bookings involving several passengers, the concession would add up to a tidy sum. Hence the mayhem.
