Alstom Transmission and Distribution today inaugurated its country first Digital Substation Automation Competence Centre aimed at strengthening its know-how in digital technology.
Alstom Transmission and Distribution India, Managing Director, Rathin Basu along with Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd., Chairman and Managing Director, Arvind Singh unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion, here, at the company’s facility in suburban Pallavaram.
This is the new facility to be inaugurated in Pallavaram nearly after five decade which strengthens Alstom know—how in digital technology, support in transforming the energy to the grid and develop substations of the future, Basu said.
“Alstom has brought in advanced network management and substation automation technology to the Indian transmission domain. The opening of the Competence Centre will allow further advancement of high, extra high and ultra high voltage enabling Alstom to maintain its leadership position in transmission market,” he said at the inauguration.
The facility, would also help its Alstom customers to deploy “smart grid technologies” for a reliable and efficient grid, he said.
According to company official, the Pallavaram site manufactures complete range of electro—mechanical relays and MiCOM numerical relays and provides engineering support for conventional and digital control systems.
The Digital Substation Automation Competence Centre was a step forward in Alstom’s strategic plans to promote smart grid development in the country, the official said.
The Chennai facility besides serving the domestic market also caters to export markets to the Middle East, Europe and Americas. Alstom has a group has over Euro 20 billion and booked close to Euro 24 bn in orders during 2012—13. The Group employs 93,000 people in 100 countries.
