Amazon.in is expanding its fulfilment centres for large appliances and furniture to six more cities — Coimbatore, Pune, Lucknow, Gurugram, Mumbai and Bhopal — taking the number of fulfilment centres to 15 in this niche space.

The firm has a network of 62 fulfilment centres, including 32 for core retail, 15 for grocery service AmazonNow.

“The total carpet area of the specialised centres has gone up to 13.5 lakh sqft this year from six lakh sqft last year. The storage space has doubled to 5.2 million cubic feet this year from 2.5 million last year. The number of delivery stations has gone up to 60 from 35,” said Suchit Subhas, Category Leader (Appliances) of Amazon India.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said the company could offer scheduled and next-day delivery services to more customers after expanding the infrastructure. The number of cities that are eligible for next-day delivery is now 30 cities, from 20 in last year.

Amazon has also expanded its storage capacity in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ludhiana and Ahmedabad.
