Chennai-based Apollo Hospitals signed an MoU on Monday with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to facilitate hassle-free travel for patients from the North-East.
The partnership provides a prepaid preventive package for people in the north-eastern and eastern parts of the country who travel to Chennai for health checkups.
A separate 72-seat coach will be added to a train starting from Kolkata for medical tourists every 15 days starting November-end.
The three-day Apollo health check package includes a return train ticket, local transport to the hospital, and accommodation and sightseeing.
An option for genetic profiling at a discounted price will also be provided, for which Apollo has tied up with Delhi-based genome profiling clinic Datar.
Prathap C Reddy, founder and Chairman of Apollo Hospitals, told media persons that numerous people from the North-East come to Apollo for procedures and language is among their biggest challenges.
