The global downturn notwithstanding, garment exporters managed to bag orders worth about Rs 1,000 crore at the three-day apparel fair in New Delhi this week. “A total of 975 buyers and 1,399 buying agents visited the fair. It generated business worth Rs 1,000 crore and business of same amount is in the pipeline,” Apparel Export Promotion Council Chairman A Sakthivel said in a statement. India’s apparel exports declined by over 5 per cent to $12.9 billion in 2012-13 due to low demand in the Western markets, especially in the US and the EU. Exporters have targeted exports worth $ 20 billion in 2013-14.
