Arvind Ltd has entered into a wage settlement agreement with Textile Labour Association.
The move came two days after the Ahmedabad Textile Mills’ Association and the Textile Labour Association signed an agreement to undertake wage settlements bilaterally between the association and respective textile mills in Ahmedabad.
As per the agreement, the wages of workers will go up by about Rs 1,935 per month with effect from July 1, 2012, according to a press release.
Commenting on this wage settlement, Jayesh Shah, Director and CFO, Arvind Ltd, said that each worker will get an additional amount of about Rs 1,900 per month, after certain statutory deductions, which is an average increase of 27 per cent in take-home wages.
The average cost of wage per worker (including all other allowances and benefits) will go up from Rs 11,600 to Rs 13,800.
In June, workers of Arvind had gone on strike demanding higher wages. The agitation later spread to other textile mills also. Ahmedabad Textile Mills’ Association, the mills owners’ representative, and the Textile Labour Association had intervened as a mediator to end the strike.
