Chennai-based drugmaker Arvind Remedies has filed for patenting a new drug for treating chikungunya, chicken pox, and combating the herpes viruses such as Varivella Zoster Virus, and Human Herpes. The drug, slated for clinical trials, will be formulated into a product with higher bio-availability and minimum side effects, according to a release by the company. The company had signed agreements in 2010 with Presidency College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, and Indian Institute of Integrative Medicines, Jammu, for developing the drug. — Our Bureau
