The Hinduja Group company Ashok Leyland Limited has announced it has thus far achieved sales of one lakh units of Dost, its light commercial vehicle (LCV) and first product from the joint venture with Nissan.
The company has achieved this milestone in less than four years of the launch of Dost, which a top company executive described as the largest volume brand in the Ashok Leyland portfolio.
Nitin Seth, President, LCV & Defence, Ashok Leyland, said, “Dost has fulfilled its promise of increased payload, improved efficiency, class leading performance, comfort and safety. This can be experienced at 350 exclusive outlets across the country.”
Seth said that several features of Dost, including higher mileage and reliability and low total cost of ownership have helped achieve this numbers.
The Dost range is also exported to about a dozen countries where there has been strong market acceptance. It is exported to markets with right hand drive, as this is the only option the company currently produces.
Ashok Leyland currently has a market share of about 16 per cent in the LCV segment of about 1.9 lakh units per annum where Dost operates and it is targeting 18 per cent share this year.
Seth said that the company plans to come out with more models on the same platform.
