Ashok Leyland unveils new range of ‘intelligent’ emission tech products

Commercial vehicles manufacturer Ashok Leyland has unveiled a range of products based on ‘Intelligent Exhaust Gas Recirculation (iEGR)’ technology at its Zonal Conference 2017 here on Friday.

The company said the new technology, which was unveiled in April, would aid in achieving the BS-IV emission norms that were adopted by the country on April 1 this year.

The ban on sale and registration of BS-III vehicles by the Supreme Court starting April 1, had left a number of auto manufacturers with unsold inventory of BS-III vehicles.

This new technology, however, is expected to help Ashok Leyland convert their existing inventory into BS IV-compliant vehicles.

“Ashok Leyland is the only domestic OEM to implement this technology successfully for its products above 130 Horse Power (HP),” a statement from the company said.

It further claimed that the iEGR technology is better suited to Indian road conditions than the Selective Catalytic Reduction emissions control technology.

The company also hopes that the use of this technology will bolster its ambitions to be the market leader in North India.

“We have been receiving very good response from almost all regions in India and North being the most important, we hope for a similar response,” said Anuj Kathuria, President of global trucks, Ashok Leyland, adding that in the northern region the company grabbed market share of 25 per cent in the last fiscal, up from 19 per cent in 2014-15.
