Commercial vehicles maker Asia Motor Works (AMW) today announced its foray into the luxury bus segment with the unveiling of its 57-seater bus. The bus will hit the Indian roads in the middle of the year, but the price was not disclosed.
“The luxury bus segment currently is of the size of about 3,000-3,500 units annually and it is growing. Looking at this demand, we are launching our 57-seater bus, which will be available by the middle of the year,” the company MD and CEO, Mr Anirudh Bhuwalka, told reporters here.
He, however, declined to comment on the pricing or the sales target.
Asked if AMW will export the buses, Mr Bhuwalka said there are no such plans as of now.
“We would like to focus on the domestic market first before looking at exporting,” he added.
The company has also unveiled a range of trucks which would be launched in the middle of the year. It has sold 25,000 trucks in the last three years.
Asia Motor Works is looking at starting export of its trucks in the next fiscal.
“We are looking at exporting trucks next fiscal and discussions with dealers are on. Markets like Middle East, SAARC and Africa would be natural options,” he said.
