Audi India is hoping that the new A3 sedan will be a game changer in the Indian market. The compact luxury sedan, which is based on the A3 hatch, has been unveiled at the Auto Expo and will be launched later this year.
Speaking at the sidelines of the show, Joe King, Head, Audi India said that the A3 sedan will be the most suitable for the Indian market. “Being the most popular brand in India and winning in this market is an absolute priority for us. And so, I think getting it right in the compact luxury segment is important, and the A3 sedan brings just what is needed”, he said.
The A3 sedan will be positioned between a luxury hatch and Audi’s bigger cars. King said that the Indian market is unique and buyers here are more value driven and tend to choose cars that deliver better value. That is also the reason why the A3 will possibly be assembled locally when it is launched in the third quarter of 2014. “The A3 sedan has the potential to dominate the segment”, King said.
Audi closed 2013 with sales of 10,002 units, said to be the highest in the luxury cars segment. Audi India had a market share of 32 per cent for the year. Continuing with its network expansion strategy, Audi plans to increase its dealership count to 40 outlets by the end of 2014.
Other Audi models at the Auto Expo include the Audi R18 e-tron Quattro, the RS 7 Sportback and the R8 V10 Spyder.
